What is a classic touring rally? Well, it is a special form of a long distance rally race where historical or classic automobiles travel from one point to another and the fastest one that gets there wins. No definition can be simpler than that as the race itself a rather simple and straightforward affair. It’s more about touring vintage automobiles at a leisurely pace rather than madly scrambling about at 100 miles per hour with handbrake turns through hairpins and kicking up dust and mud along the way.

Most of the older vehicles used are akin to museum pieces and must be raced as carefully as possible and as fast prudence will allow. Although there may be a vintage racer with a formidable Cosworth engine, it would be downright insane to drive this priceless car like mad on a public road. As a rule in most vintage races, no modifications are allowed so the performance parts loaded in the car are as stock as possible. No fancy modifications with the tires, suspensions systems and brakes. Save those high tech Tein suspension systems in other rally races, this vintage event allow only almost unmodified cars. Be that as it may, the sight of vintage automobiles zipping about is a sight to behold. Only those without a heart or a soul would find these cars unappealing, and the makes and models of these cars are enough to fill up an entire encyclopedia.
Old cars posses a certain charm. These cars have more character than today’s vehicles, which look like melted bars and are so alike that they all look like they came from the same mold. And racing old cars takes as much talent and skill as racing a modern race car. So a classic touring rally is as exciting to watch as any other rally, and the cars are a lot prettier too.
